This article is a speech by the author on February 11, 2023 to attend the “From Time to Philosophy of Kung Fu” and the International Academic Seminar of “Confucianism of Kung Fu” hosted by the author on February 11, 2023.
【Summary】The main problems in “Kung Fu Philosophy”: First, the symmetry of the concept of “Kung Fu” and the relationship between Chinese and Western Philosophy. The “eight eyes” of “Big School” – “Grade and honest, rectify and regulate peace” are actually all problems of time. Confucianism’s work is a great way to adapt to the practical philosophy of the East. Second, the temporal transformation of the concept of “technology” and the problems of ancient and modern changes in Confucian philosophy. To enable the logic of “repair and peace” to be established in modern society, the subject must be converted into a modern society: the sacred family means that the people achieve the peace of the modern focus family, governing the country means that the people exercise the political right of the state management in a certain way, and pacifying the whole country means that the people participate in world affairs in a certain way. Therefore, the standard of self-cultivation of “grasp and integrity” cannot be as demanded by the elite, but can only be the cultivation of the qualified national personality. Third, the relationship between practice and metaphysical philosophy. In the Song and Ming dynasties, the relationship between metaphysical and technical discussion is the foundation. Similarly, the practical philosophy of Eastern tradition also has its metaphysical foundation. Therefore, tomorrow we cannot leave the “Big Learning” and “Doing the Mean” that Song Ming Neo-Confucianists know. Moreover, we can talk from a different perspective, such as the “biography, review, careful thinking, discernment, and practice” in “Doing the Mean” is all the time, and the “forming the pattern and achieving the rightness, and the cultivation and peace” in “Big School” is also all the time. Philosophers sit there thinking about Confucian philosophy, and they are working hard.
Finally, he mentioned that time also has a contemporary nature, facing the problem of modern transformation. He believed that the key to the Confucianism tomorrow could play a thinking resource like “Big School” lies in realizing that the transformation of career methods has led to the transformation of social subjects, and the subject of modern society is undoubtedly a body. The comments I made at that time recorded in this report were importantly discussed in two aspects: one is the connotation and connotation of the concept of “technical time”, and emphasizes the “eight eyes” of “Great Learning and Correcting and Pacifying” in “Big Science” are all about time. These two questions are actually something I have always paid attention to. In this book, “Love and Thinking – Confucianism in Career”, published in 2006, a special session was set up, which is the first session of the fourth session, discussing “work problems”. The first chapter is “Survey of things and seek knowledge”, the second chapter is “Integrity and uprightness of mind and self-cultivation”, and the next chapter is “Supporting family to govern the country and pacify the whole country”; on the other hand, many of the contents of this book also touch on the modern development issues discussed in time.
Of course, what Teacher Ni’s Gao Wen touched is not only these problems, but also a large-scale system that touches many basic philosophical problems in ancient and modern times, China and the West. I think that Teacher Ni’s high-level articles have the most important contributions: First, the concept of “Kung Fu Philosophy” is used to include the entire Confucian philosophy tradition, which is a unique summary of the Confucian philosophy tradition; Second, for the Confucian philosophy tradition, “Kung Fu Philosophy” is not “speaking according to the story”, but “continuing the “Writing” has become an original philosophical thinking of contemporary philosophers; thirdly, “Kung Fu Philosophy” has the value of integrating Chinese and Western philosophy, because: Although Teacher Ni’s statement seems to be a contrast between Chinese and Western, and even contains the meaning of the opposition between Chinese and Western, this just needs a domain that goes beyond the confrontation between Chinese and Western.
